Σύνοψη
Ένας ηλικιωμένος μεταφραστής ταξιδεύει στη Βιέννη για να εκδικηθεί τον αξιωματικό των Ναζί που ευθύνεται για την εκτέλεση των γονιών του. Αντί αυτού, βρίσκει τον γιο του και μαζί ξεκινούν ένα απρόοπτο οδοιπορικό που θα τους πλησιάσει στις απαντήσεις που γυρεύουν. Η υποβολή της Σλοβακίας στα φετινά Όσκαρ βάζει την κωμωδία και την τραγωδία συνεπιβάτες σε ένα γενναιόψυχο road movie, με οδηγούς τον Πίτερ Σιμόνισεκ και τον θρυλικό Τσέχο σκηνοθέτη, Γίρι Μένζελ.
80-year-old Ali Ungar comes across a book by a former SS officer describing his wartime activities in Slovakia. He realises his parents were executed by him. He sets out to Vienna to take revenge but finds instead his son, who had avoided his father all his life, and who decides to find out more about his father and offers Ali to be his interpreter. The two old men, in everything opposite, embark on a bittersweet journey to meet surviving witnesses of the wartime tragedy. They discover a country eager to forget its past. They realise their memories are fragments mixed with their imagination and interpretation.

Σύνοψη
Ένας ευυπόληπτος ιατροδικαστής εμπλέκεται σε ένα τροχαίο, όπου τραυματίζεται ένα οχτάχρονο αγοράκι. Ο άνδρας προτίθεται να πληρώσει αποζημίωση στον πατέρα του παιδιού και να το μεταφέρει στο νοσοκομείο, αλλά εις μάτην. Το άλλο πρωί, βρίσκει στο νοσοκομείο το πτώμα του αγοριού που έχει μεταφερθεί εκεί για αυτοψία, αλλά η πρώτη γνωμάτευση δείχνει θάνατο από δηλητηρίαση. Ένα εκλεκτό δείγμα του κινηματογράφου των ηθικών διλημμάτων, μια ελεγεία για τους ανθρώπους που ονειρευόμασταν να γίνουμε κι όμως θάψαμε μέσα μας.
The forensic pathologist Dr Nariman has a car accident with a motorcyclist and injures his 8-year-old son. He offers to take the child to a clinic nearby and compensate him, but the father refuses his help and money. The next morning, in the hospital where he works, Dr Nariman finds out that the little boy has been brought for an autopsy after a suspicious death. Dr Nariman is facing a dilemma: is he responsible for the child’s death due to the car accident or the child died of food poisoning according to the other doctors’ diagnosis?
